Kathy Griffin won't be taking her marriage into 2024.
The comedian and "Fashion Police" alumna, 63, filed for divorce from her husband Randy Bick in Los Angeles Superior Court Thursday, according to court documents obtained by USA TODAY Friday. The couple was just four days shy of what would have been their fourth wedding anniversary.
Shortly after the news, first reported by TMZ, broke online, Griffin took to X and Instagram to post a dour sentiment. "This sucks," she said.
Griffin and Bick, who wed on New Year's Day in 2020, first began dating in 2011 but announced a split in November 2018. By April of 2019 they were back together. Griffin announced their engagement just hours before the 2020 ceremony, which was officiated by Lily Tomlin.
In the divorce filing, Griffin listed the pair's date of separation as Dec. 22, and cited "irreconcilable differences" as the reason for the divorce. She also asked the court to "enforce premarital agreement dated 12/23/2019."
USA TODAY has reached out to representatives for Griffin.
When the couple married in 2020, Griffin shared details from their long courtship on social media, including a picture of their first date in 2011. "This was our first formal date in September 2011!" she captioned the picture. "We are in the back of a limo provided by the one only Gloria Estefan because her team arranged for me to surprise her as a back up 'dancer' when she performed at the Alma awards!"
Griffin, known for her acerbic comedy and shows like "My Life on the D List," revealed earlier this year that she's been diagnosed with an "extreme case" of complex post-traumatic stress disorder, or PTSD. Griffin said she believes her condition began in 2017, around the time she faced widespread criticism for a photo of her holding a mask of former President Donald Trump covered in blood-red ketchup, but she did not reference the incident. She added that her lung cancer diagnosis in 2021 "didn't help" the state of her mental health either.
Griffin was previously married. She accused her former husband of stealing from her on “Larry King Live” in 2006 and has said she put their troubles into her act.
