Francesca Scorsese is sharing insight into her mom's health journey.
While the 24-year-old has made a name for herself showing off life with dad Martin Scorsese on TikTok, she recently gave followers a look at a different part of her life, detailing her mom Helen Morris' battle with early-onset Parkinson's Disease and a recent health scare that led to a hospital stay.
"I feel like on TikTok, I show my dad, I show glitz and glamour," Francesca shared in her Aug. 2 TikTok. "But I feel like I need to start sharing this side of my life with my mom. My mom has had Parkinson's since she was in her early 30s, and now she's in her late 70s."
"Yesterday, we spent the whole day in the E.R.," she continued. "I literally left a two-hour-long therapy session, and my dad texted me that she was in the emergency room. Usually, when she goes to the emergency room, it has to do with infections or falls or broken bones, confusion—it's sort of turned into Parkinson's dementia at this point."
However, this time, Helen—who tied the knot with Martin in 1999—was brought in due to chest pains amid her battle with the neurodegenerative disease.
"We got really scared that maybe she was having a heart attack," Francesca explained. "Because she's essentially bed-bound, she ended up having multiple pulmonary embolisms, so she had multiple blood clots in her right lung."
And before heading to the hospital with a bag of peanut M&Ms for her mom, 77, she added, "I really think you guys will love her because she's an icon."
While he wasn’t able to be in the hospital with Francesca and Helen, the Killers of the Flower Moon director was on FaceTime with the phone perched on a nearby table.
But after leaving the hospital, Francesca reflected on her emotions after the long day. "Honestly, I’m having a lot of anxiety," she explained. "I had a little bit of a panic attack. I’m just going to try and go to bed because that usually acts as a reset."
And for Martin—who is also dad to Cathy Scorsese, 58, with ex-wife Laraine Marie Brennan and Domenica Cameron-Scorsese, 47, with ex-wife Julia Cameron —his wife’s resilience with her health condition has been a source of motivation.
"I've never seen such strength like that in a person and such a fortitude and a positive way of approaching life under the worst of circumstances, very bad circumstances,” he shared on SiriusXM's This Life of Mine with James Corden in February. "It's been 30 years, 35 years or whatever with the illness, and so when I think I'm not feeling well or something, I look over there and see her rally herself together."
